ISOWARE update guide

Version 16.0.0

Contents

Update third party software

ISOWARE has the following third-party software dependencies:

Usage Name Version
Web server Apache Tomcat 9.0
Database server PostGreSQL 12.4
Virtual Machine Java Runtime Edition (JRE) 11

The current version of ISOWARE is optimized to run on Apache Tomcat 9.0, PostGreSQL 12.4 and Java 11.

If Java 8 is installed on the machine on which ISOWARE is to run, it is necessary to install Java 11. We recommend that you uninstall the existing Java 8 and replace it with Java 11.

Java 11 can be downloaded here at the time of writing: https://adoptium.net/temurin/releases.

Please note that this version of Java does not include an automatic update function, so you must make sure to download and install new versions at appropriate intervals.

If ISOWARE is installed on earlier versions of Apache Tomcat, it is recommended to update it to version 9.0.

If PostGreSQL is used in an earlier version, it is recommended to update it to version 12.4.

Please contact ISOWARE if you need help updating Apache Tomcat or PostGreSQL.

Update to version 16.0.0

The following sections assume that Apache Tomcat is configured to run on port 8080 and the ISOWARE application is deployed with the name ISOWARE. If not, the address used (http:// localhost:8080/ISOWARE) must be replaced with http://server:port/application, where server is the network name or IP address of the server used, port is the port that Apache Tomcat listens to and application is the chosen name for the ISOWARE application, e.g. http://server01:8080/quality. If Apache Tomcat is set to listen on port 80, the :port section can be omitted, e.g. http://server01/quality. If, as in the above example, you want the application to be named /qualitymanagement instead of /ISOWARE, then rename the downloaded war file to qualitymanagement##1600.war before deploying it on the server.

The following steps should be performed

  1. Backup database
  2. Deploy new war file
  3. Update the database
  4. Enter license info
  5. Undeploy old war file

Please complete the steps in the above order.

1. Backup database

It is highly recommended that the existing database be backed up as it allows the system to roll back to its original configuration.

How to do it:

  1. Log on to the server where PostGreSQL is installed, with administrator privileges
  2. Start the PGAdmin 4 application

  3. Enter the Master password

  4. Click on PostgreSQL 12 in the menu to the left (under Servers)

  5. Enter the password to the database server and click OK
  6. Right click on the database - isoware (or any other selected name) - and select Backup

  7. Select a location for the backup and click Backup

  8. Wait for the backup to complete
  9. Close PGAdmin 4

2. Deploy new .war file

ISOWARE is updated by deploying a new war (Web Archive) file on the Apache Tomcat web server.

How to do it:

  1. Log on to the server where Apache Tomcat is installed, with administrator privileges
  2. Click here to download the new war file and save it somewhere where you can easily find it again
  3. Open a browser and navigate to http://localhost:8080/manager/html

  4. Fill in your username and password and click OK

  5. Go to the bottom of the page

  6. Click on the Browse button next to Select WAR file to upload
  7. Specify the path to the war file (the one you downloaded earlier) and click OK
  8. Click Deploy
  9. Wait for the file to be uploaded, you will be notified when the upload has been completed successfully

3. Update database

When you are finished deploying the new war file, an update of the ISOWARE database should be made.

How to do it:

  1. Open a browser and navigate to http://localhost:8080/ISOWARE/Setup

  2. Enter the username and password for the database server and click Login

  3. Click the Update Database button and wait a moment while the system is working
The update ends with a list of completed tasks. If one of the tasks fails, the entire update is rolled back. Please contact ISOWARE, if the database update fails

  4. Click Done to exit the updater

4. Enter license info

If it has not already been done in previous updates, license information must be entered in order to use ISOWARE after the update. The license information is received from ISOWARE A/S.

The above window will appear when users attempt to log in if the license is not valid for the ISOWARE version that you have installed.

How to do it:

  1. Log on to ISOWARE as System Administrator (sysadm)

  2. Click Settings at the top of the menu on the left

  3. Select License in the System folder

  4. If no license information has been previously entered, click Activate License
  5. If license information has been previously entered, click the Reactivate License button instead

  6. Enter the username and license code that you received from ISOWARE and click Activate

5. Undeploy .war file

The old version of ISOWARE is removed by uninstalling the old war (Web Archive) file on the Apache Tomcat web server.

How to do it:

  1. Log on to the server where Apache Tomcat is installed, with administrator privileges
  2. Open a browser and navigate to http://localhost:8080/manager/html

  3. Fill in your username and password and click OK

  4. Locate the version of ISOWARE in the list to be uninstalled. You can see the version in the Version
  5. Click Undeploy next to the version to be uninstalled
